Pharaoh Ant
About Pharaoh Ants
Pharaoh ants (Monomorium pharaonis) are small (about 1/16 inch long), pale yellow to reddish ants with dark abdomens. They form large colonies with multiple queens, allowing infestations to spread quickly.
Risks & Concerns
These ants are notorious for contaminating food and surfaces. In hospitals and healthcare settings, they can spread pathogens such as Salmonella and Streptococcus. Their colonies often split when disturbed, making them especially difficult to control.
Prevention & Control
Keep food sealed, clean spills promptly, and avoid using DIY sprays, which can worsen infestations by causing colony splitting. Professional baiting strategies are the most effective solution.
