Pavement Ant
About Pavement Ants
Pavement ants (Tetramorium caespitum) are dark brown to black and about 1/8 inch long. They nest under pavement, stones, and building foundations, pushing small piles of soil out of cracks as a sign of activity.
Risks & Concerns
They are a nuisance indoors, where they forage for crumbs, sugar, and greasy foods. While not dangerous, infestations can be persistent and difficult to manage without locating the nest.
Prevention & Control
Seal food containers, clean floors and counters regularly, and treat entry points. Professional treatment may be needed to fully eliminate colonies nesting under concrete.
