House Cricket

About House Crickets

House crickets (Acheta domesticus) are yellowish-brown, about ¾ inch long, with long antennae. They are known for their distinctive chirping, caused by males rubbing their wings together.

Risks & Concerns

Though mostly a nuisance, large infestations can damage fabrics, paper, and stored goods. Their chirping can also be disruptive in quiet environments.

Prevention & Control

Seal cracks around doors and windows, reduce outdoor lighting that attracts crickets, and keep basements dry. Sticky traps may help with small infestations indoors.
