Eastern Subterranean Termite
About Eastern Subterranean Termites
The Eastern subterranean termite (Reticulitermes flavipes) is small, pale, and about 1/8 inch long. Colonies live underground and can contain hundreds of thousands of termites, feeding on wood, paper, and other cellulose materials.
Risks & Concerns
Termites silently damage wood from the inside out, often going unnoticed until significant structural damage occurs. Signs include mud tubes, discarded wings, and hollow-sounding wood.
Prevention & Control
Reduce moisture around foundations, store firewood away from buildings, and schedule regular inspections. Professional termite control is essential, often involving baiting or soil treatments.
