Common Ground Beetle

About Common Ground Beetles

Ground beetles (Carabidae family) are shiny black or dark brown insects, usually about ½ inch long, with long legs and antennae. They are nocturnal predators that feed on insects, larvae, and slugs.

Risks & Concerns

Ground beetles do not bite humans, damage structures, or infest food. They sometimes wander indoors by accident, especially in basements and garages, but pose no threat.

Prevention & Control

Seal gaps around foundations, doors, and windows to limit entry. Because they are beneficial outdoors, no control is usually necessary unless they become a nuisance indoors.
