Brown Dog Tick
About Brown Dog Ticks
The brown dog tick (Rhipicephalus sanguineus) is reddish-brown and about 1/8 inch long. Unlike many ticks, they can complete their life cycle indoors, infesting carpets, pet bedding, and furniture.
Risks & Concerns
They feed primarily on dogs but may bite humans in heavy infestations. They can transmit canine diseases such as ehrlichiosis and babesiosis.
Prevention & Control
Keep pets on veterinarian-approved tick preventatives. Vacuum and wash bedding regularly. Infestations indoors may require professional treatment to eliminate all life stages.
