Ant Control

One of the most common household pests could be one of about 12,000 known species of ants.

Carpenter ants, house ants and pavement ants are most commonly found in New England. Although they are relatively easy to spot they are sometimes difficult to remove from your home or business despite your best efforts with some do it yourself approaches. Our professionals use an advanced approach to quickly eliminate ants before they cause damage to your home or business.

An ant infestation spreads fast and can be difficult to deal with if you don’t know what to expect. Once the colony finds its way inside of your home, it will continue to grow while searching the premises for water and food sources. Structural damage may result from an ant presence as well, and that is why it is important to try and keep their population in check.

Identify and Prevent

Ants just like most pests make their way into your home or business looking for water and food or the outside climate becomes inhospitable. Ants travel in packs relatively slowly and do not leave behind any physical indications of their tracks. You are unlikely to notice ants are making themselves at home until they establish a nest and venture out for more supplies together.

A good first step in preventing ants from taking over your space is to focus on closing up all potential openings by using caulk to seal windows, doorways and thresholds. Removing all water and food sources is another great approach, by moving all food products in pantries and cabinets off the ground so the ants will have a difficult time navigating them. Take caution and clean up all food spills immediately and keep up on overall sanitation and housekeeping.

Behavior and Control

All ant species generally behave similarly by walking in single file lines when they are scouting out new places while leaving a trail for their fellow ants to follow. The colony sends out scout ants to find food and water and will return if they are successful.

If you see ants or a cluster eliminate them with a wet sponge, spot treatment or paper towel, be sure they don’t get away as they will likely return with some new scouts later. If you find a trail of ants, eliminate the ants and also wipe up the trail using a cleaning solution such as water and bleach from the beginning and end of the trail.

Treating for larger scale ant problems on your own may also inadvertently attract a new colony or nest in your home or business. If you determine you have a persistent ant problem you can’t seem to get ahead of we will determine the correct Integrated Pest Management Plan for the particular ant species.
