Wolf Spider
Order/family: Araneae; Lycosidae
Scientific Name: Lycosidae
Wolf spiders vary in size from quite small (less than 1/2”) to more that 1 1/4”. They have a unique size and arrangement of the 8 eyes. Whereas most spiders have 8 eyes in two rows of four, wolf spiders have an almost straight row of 4 small eyes. Above that is a row of 2 more forward-facing “headlight” eyes, and another pair of side-facing eyes sit just behind the “headlight” eyes. Wolf spiders can vary in color from tan, to black, or brown.
