Termite Control Yesterday and Today

The way we approach the termite control today has changed significantly over the last 30+ years.  Everything from the amount of product applied, to the types of products used, has revolutionized termite control technology. The Sentricon System continues to be the most effective in complete colony elimination which doesn’t require digging trenches around the structure or drilling holes in the basement to create a continuous chemical barrier beneath your home or business.

For decades, the only treatment available was the chemical termiticide barrier beneath your home.  Literally hundreds of gallons of chemical pesticides were injected into the ground to “control” the colony, rarely did it kill the entire colony. Some pest control companies still use this approach in certain situations, but the newer baiting technology is by far the most widely prescribed method today. It’s more environmentally-friendly, and far less invasive for clients and their properties.

The barrier strategy had its share of problems. If a continuous chemical barrier was not achieved, termites would find the “open door” and still continue to damage the structure, sometimes at great expense. Many times when homes are built, construction crews will bury lumber waste onsite, sometimes right up against the new structure before the soil is back-filled up against the concrete foundation. This practice was often identified as the reason for a compromised termiticide barrier.

The barrier strategy is more costly, labor intensive, and less effective at eliminate colonies than today’s Sentricon system treatment. The Sentricon system much easier to install and maintain. It’s also an insect-specific solution that is much more environmentally-friendly.
