Signs of termite activity include springtime swarmers (the winged members of the colony), mud tunnels on basement sills or walls, or damage. Termites are common in both rural and urban settings.
The Community Under Your Home or Business
Termites are social creatures living in a very organized underground colony. Each termite has very distinct roles in their community where they depend on each other for survival. The king exists to reproduce soldiers, reproductives and workers with the queen. The soldier termites protect their colony from invaders like ants. The reproductives are the termites with wings, when they are ready they emerge from their colony to build another colony. Colony’s can start with thousands and grow to millions of termites very quickly. The workers build tunnels and mud tubes leading to fresh wood to eat which could be your home or business. The workers are responsible for bringing food back to the colony 24 hours a day.
Termites Eating Your Home or Business
Termites can enter your home or business through an opening as small as one thirty second of an inch. If there is a settlement, crack or loose mortar joint, a small space around a drainpipe or a crack in your foundation they are in and the feast begins. Our technicians are trained and well experienced to track down where termites are active. We will inspect the interior and exterior of your home which will tell a story of how termites entered and where they are now.
The SENTRICON® System
Small stake like containers are buried in the ground which contains active termite bait which begins working the moment it is installed. Termites colonies have been know to travel the length of a football field to search for food. Termites create additional underground tunnels to increase their chances to find food. Once they branch off they will find the Sentricon bait stations and they prefer this unique bait over wood and once ingested the elimination process begins. The patented active ingredient noviflumuron prevents the workers from molting and if they can’t molt they die and can’t feed their colony, so the colony dies.
The Sentricon® Installation
Our trained technicians will strategically place Sentricon stations about ten feet apart around the perimeter of your home or business and in areas conducive to termite attacks. Our technicians will check the bait stations and replace the bait when necessary, making sure it’s always working to prevent further attacks on your home. Every time you see those green stations take comfort in knowing your home is protected.
Termite Prevention
We are confident in the success of the Sentricon system to eliminate and control termite issues, however our technician is also invested in you in future prevention. They will look for conditions that are conducive to termite activity such as wood rot and excessive moisture. Even if no other signs of termites are present in these areas, these conditions could be recommended to be removed or managed appropriately. If you have mulch or some other organic material near your home, our technician will check it for the presence of termites. They will also check a pile of firewood, leaf litter, logs, stumps, wooden objects used to encompass a flowerbed, and other similar things. Any items made of wood will be of particular interest. This consultation will go a long way in the ultimate prevention of a future infestation which in the long run will help reduce damage and associated financial effects.
