Fungus Gnat
Order/family: Diptera/Sciaridae and Mycetophilidae
Scientific Name: Variety of names
Description: Fungus gnats are very small flies 1/32” to 7/16” long, slender to robust, long-legged, and mosquito-like. They are usually black, brow, or yellowish. The dark-winged fungus gnat (Sciaridae) has smoke-colored wings, and the wings of other fungus gnats (Mycetophilidae) are spotted. Although they have well-developed heads, the larvae are inconspicuous and have 11 to 12 body segments and a ventral bottom lobe on their last abdominal segment.
